Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 16, 2026
PoliTickIt ("PoliTickIt," "we," "us," or "our") is a civic-intelligence platform that helps constituents understand and verify the records of their elected representatives. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the PoliTickIt mobile app and www.politickit.com (together, the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information — your email address, used to create and secure your account and to verify it.
- Location and district — the ZIP code you enter so we can determine your state and congressional district and show your representatives. If you choose to verify your residency, we process the related information needed for that verification tier.
- Civic activity — the representatives and topics you follow, items you add to your watchlist, survey responses, and the sentiment you express on content. Individual sentiment is pseudonymized before it is aggregated into constituent-level signals.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and analytics data — we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used (for example, screens viewed, features used, app version, general device and platform information, and approximate region derived from your IP address). This helps us improve the Service. You can turn analytics off in the app's settings (see "Your choices" below).
- Diagnostics — limited technical information used to keep the Service stable and secure.
Information stored on your device
PoliTickIt is "local-first": much of your data (your representatives, follows, and cached content) is stored in a local database on your device so the app works quickly and offline. This on-device data is removed when you uninstall the app.
2. How we use information
- Provide, personalize, and operate the Service — including matching you to your district's representatives.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Aggregate pseudonymized constituent sentiment into district-level signals.
- Measure and improve performance, reliability, and features.
- Communicate with you about your account and the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the Service and its users.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising. PoliTickIt's upgraded features are earned through participation — never purchased — so we do not collect payment-card information.
3. How we share information
- Service providers — we share information with vendors that operate the Service on our behalf, under agreements that limit their use of it: Microsoft Azure (cloud hosting and database) and Google Firebase / Google Analytics (analytics). Google's handling of analytics data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Aggregated or de-identified data — we may share constituent signals and statistics that do not identify you.
- Legal and safety — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the Service, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — information may transfer as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
The information PoliTickIt presents about representatives comes from public government sources (for example, Congress.gov, the Federal Register, and the Federal Election Commission). That is public data about public officials — not information about you.
4. Data retention
We keep account information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. We retain other information for as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the personal information associated with it, except where we must retain it to meet legal obligations.
5. Security
We use technical and organizational measures — including encrypted transport (HTTPS), authenticated access, and secret management — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your choices and rights
- Analytics. You can disable analytics collection in the app's settings at any time.
- Access, correction, and deletion. You can request a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below.
- District. You can update your ZIP code and district in the app's settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To exercise any right, contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. U.S.-based service
PoliTickIt is operated in the United States and is intended for use in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed in the U.S.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
